I was introduced to this book with its accompanying CD with Carly Simon singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame," a song I suspect every American knows, when Diane Rehm interview Ms. Simon on Ms. Rehm' NPR show. It is a wonderful and quite large, colorfully illustrated book about a girl, Katie Casey, who is a baseball nut, written in poetry kids--of all ages including mine at nearly 70--love with a defined rhyme scheme and catchy phrases: "Katie Casey was baseball mad./She had the fever and she had it bad..." And then suddenly the catchy lyrics of the famous song appear. Katie Casey knew Jackie Robinson. And the book includes a little about that special relationship. And the illustrations are just so vibrant, so wonderful. For the price of this book, you can't go wrong. And what a great gift to anyone you know who loves what was once--before football became what it unfortunatley has--America's best-loved game: baseball.

Break out the peanuts and Cracker Jacks for this new spin on an American classic! Katie Casey, the baseball-loving cat, cheers on two animal teams vying for victory at Sluggers Stadium. Will Crocodile hit a home run? Or will Giraffe's wicked curve ball throw him for a loop? Whoever wins, it's sure to be a game to remember. Colorful, collage-like illustrations bring the game to life and will delight baseball fans both young and old. The unofficial anthem of baseball has never sounded or looked better than it does in this joyful edition, complete with a CD featuring the inimitable Carly Simon. This version of Take Me Out to the Ball Game was originally done for the Ken Burns PBS series Baseball. The CD also includes the songs I Gave My Love a Cherry and Scarborough Fair.
