Gotta Be Jazz Performance/Accompaniment CD (no dialog recorded) Review

(More customer reviews)I was putting on a 4th/5th grade Jazz themed concert and discovered this review. I was looking for kid friendly arrangements of famous jazz standards, and this fit the bill perfectly. Five of the selections were jazz classics, representing various styles of jazz, and one was an original piece written for the review. The teacher's edition included a script and choreography, as well as a very nice accompaniment CD that my students loved (much more fun than plain piano accompaniment). Even though I didn't use all the songs, or the script I felt my money was well spent on the 4 songs I did use. I chose not to use the original piece, "Gotta be Jazz" since I wanted only songs with historical context in my concert. I also passed on "Basin Street Blues" since I just don't find that particular song especially appealing (and since Basin Street is considered a red light district in New Orleans). "My Favorite Things" was a great hit. It allowed me to demonstrate how songs can be transformed into jazz style, and to introduce the students to John Coltrane's version of the song. "Route 66" and "Birdland" both allowed more expeditions into Jazz history. "It Don't Mean A Thing" was my personal favorite in the review, and I would have bought this book for that song alone. Most of the songs included two parts, but they all also worked well as unison pieces. I can not offer any advice on the choreography, since I didn't even look at it (I had my own ideas on what I wanted to do during each song).
I spent some time searching for Jazz standards for kids, and this was absolutely the best option out of everything I looked at. A good value for your money as well.

She is not an easy person to buy for, but two of her favorite things are her cats and her guitar. This gift was very appropriate and I thought of her as soon as I came acrossed it on Amazon. She absolutely loved it and decided to keep it in her home instead of work so that it would not get ruined. I was very happy with the way it looked when I received it also.

(More customer reviews)This book is perfect for a beginner like myself. It identifies the guitar, both electric and accoustic as well as explaining basic chords. The DVD is the same as the book, but for people who like to see first hand what they are looking for, this is a perfect idea. The CD with the background music really helps the new guitarist understand how it should sound when playing along with a song.
I have a copy of the second book and it picks up where this one leaves off, identify more new chords to the guitarist.

There are 4 different Singer's Library of Musical Theatre, Volume 1. They include Soprano, Mezzo-Soprano/Alto, Tenor, and Baritone/Bass. This seller does not have full titles on any of these items so it is impossible to know what you're actually getting. It makes me question the ability and/or honesty of the seller.

Palmer-Hughes Prep Accordion Course, Book 3B Book Review

(More customer reviews)First, having played the accordion for 40 years and been taught with Palmer-Hughes accordion courses thru my training years, I can't recommend any Palmer-Hughes books more highly. In my opinion, Mel Bay accordion courses simply do not compare in the instruction nor the arrangements of the music. Palmer-hughes makes for fun and beautiful songs right from the get go which makes learning more motivating.
Second, what I would have wanted to know before I purchased the product: I wish I could have seen more of the songs/arrangements in each book before purchasing the book. Meaning, I would probably buy more accordion music from Amazon if I had the chance to review more of the songs/arrangements in other accordion music books - seeing the arrangements makes all the difference in my choosing to make a purchase of accordion music.

Secret Love Conductor Score & Parts Jazz Ensemble Words by Paul Francis Webster, music by Sammy Fain / arr. Dave Wolpe Review

(More customer reviews)Another great Wolpe arrangment bringing the 1953 Doris Day popularized ballad from Calamity Jane to an up-temp feature for the trombone section. This is a full 5-4-4-4 arrangement with additional/optional parts for things like vibes and tuba, and also includes Bb instrument parts (for Bariton Horn TC, or Tenor Sax) to dup/cover the tromobone parts if needed. The arrangement features the trombones both as a soli section with warm blended 4-part harmony of the melody, and then splits and gives each of the four tromobones a chance to solo. Music has optional written solos included with the chords (written solos are similar, but not identical to the demo recording). Good for any high school or better band, but playable by a good middle school band as well. Arrangment swings nicely and comes together quickly even if you've never heard of the song before. Kudos to Dave Wolpe for another fine arrangement.
