(More customer reviews)Slavic Dance by George Peter Tingley is part of the Alfred Signature Series, Alfred Publishing product number 22460. This piece is listed as a late-elementary playing ability, and I believe that is a fairly accurate assessment. Slavic Dance is a good piece for boys and girls, and adult students, and late beginners.
The key is d harmonic minor. The tempo is marked as "Quasi scherzando," which means "like a little joke." The tempo is fast paced, the piece laid out with logical hand moves. The use of semi-blocked chords (i, V7) and harmonic intervals in one hand with the melody in the other makes the coordination issues with beginning students a bit easier, and thus adds to the reasons why this is a good choice.
This is a good piece to work on playing the melody in the left hand, which often the weaker hand coordination-wise, with harmony in the right hand. Slavic Dance sounds slavic and sounds like a dance. Played well, the audience should be tapping their toes.
I recommend Slavic Dance by George Peter Tingley.
